Cincinnati’s Humorous Hot DogsPosted February 26, 2018 in the TAP Into Travel Blog
“It’s a mess because she’s a mess,” the server proclaims. Diners look toward the kitchen. And, the server points at the menu.
They are inquiring about the Lindsay Lohan hot dog, after all. It is one of seven gourmet hot dogs offered by Cincinnati’s Senate restaurant in the Over the Rhine neighborhood.
This little brick-walled restaurant in a historic building offers eight gourmet hot dogs.
The Hello Kitty hot dog is a cutesy choice for a little girl carrying a Hello Kitty handbag with matching socks. And other choices are the Chicago, the Korean, the Croque Madame. There’s even the Una Noche con Nick Lachey.
With such fabulous hot dogs as these, you really can’t go wrong.
Gourmet “off the menu” hot dogs
Your waiter might offer an off-the-menu option like the Cate Blanchett. Of course, it’s inspired by the movie Carol that was filmed in Cincinnati. It’s as tasteful as it is tasty.
The Lindsay Lohan is a hot mess. It’s a beef hot dog buried under goat cheese, caramelized onions, bacon, arugula, and balsamic vinegar. In other words, “tons of drama.” It is also delicious.
And the Senate has other offerings for the adventurous eater. You won’t want to miss its mussels charmoula, crispy pig tails, lobster BLT, roasted marrow bones, and pork belly grilled cheese.
But, don’t forget the spirits menu. It deserves equal time. Its selection is as wildly varied as the inspirations for each of the hot dogs on the menu.
Cincinnati, a city on the Ohio River, has much more to offer than hot dogs. The Queen City has come a long way from its days as a port city for pigs. It is a Renaissance town with a great sense of humor. Just like these hot dogs.
