Day 1 – Saturday, September 8

Arrival in San Francisco and Trip Reception

Day 2 – Sunday, September 9

Group departure from San Francisco to Osaka and cross the international date line.

 

Day 3 – Monday, September 10/Osaka

Arrive Kansai Airport.  After immigration and customs, meet your local English Speaking Guide and transfer to your Osaka hotel by chartered motorcoach.  Join the group for a welcome dinner at your hotel.

Day 4 – Tuesday, September 11/Osaka

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Hanshin Koshien Stadium home of the Hanshin Tigers.  First you will visit the Tigers Museum.  Then enjoy a tour of the stadium lead by a retired Hanshin Tigers Player.  Lunch will be on own at the stadium.  This afternoon, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Osaka including the city highlights and some free time for shopping.  This evening enjoy your first NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball) Professional Baseball Game in Osaka.

Day 5 – Wednesday, September 12/Himeji – Hiroshima

After breakfast, walk to the nearest train station and transfer to the Shin-Osaka station where you will board the Shinkansen (bullet train) and depart for Himeji.  Upon arrival, continue on foot for sightseeing of Himeji Castle and free time for lunch on own.  In the afternoon, return to Himeji Station and board the Shinkansen bound for Hiroshima.  Upon arrival in Hiroshima, walk to your hotel located next to the train station and check in.  This evening arrive at the Mazda Zoom Zoom Hiroshima Stadium for a box dinner and a Baseball Game. *(please pack a small overnight bag for Hiroshima, luggage will be sent directly from Osaka to Kyoto) *(baseball game subject to schedule, if no game is available the group will enjoy a Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki Dinner)

Day 6 – Thursday, September 13/Miyajima - Hiroshima – Kyoto

After breakfast, transfer by bus to the dock and take a ferry out to Miyajima for sightseeing of Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its floating “Torii”.  You will also visit the Fude No Sato Calligraphy Museum, where you will receive a lesson and try your hand with this ancient art form.  Lunch will be on own today. This afternoon enjoy touring of Hiroshima including the Peace Memorial Park and A-Bomb Dome Museum.  Next travel to Kyoto by Shinkansen and walk to your hotel where you will check in for a three night stay.  Tonight enjoy a fun Korean BBQ style dinner

Day 7 – Friday, September 14/Kyoto

This morning travel to Nara by charter motorcoach for sightseeing.  Nara was the capitol of Japan from 710 to 784, which is known as the Nara Period in Japanese history.  It is still a center for Japanese culture, history and art.  Today you will visit Kasuga Taisha Shinto Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara.  The interior is famous for its many bronze lanterns, as well as the many stone lanterns that lead up the shrine.  You will also visit the impressive Todai-ji Temple which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the Historic Monuments of Nara.  This Buddhist temple complex is home to the world’s largest bronze statue of Buddha, known to the Japanese simply as Daibutsu.  Sika deer, regarded as messengers of the gods in the Shinto religion, roam the grounds freely.  Enjoy some free time for lunch on own, then return to Kyoto and visit the Fushimi Inari Shrine .  Tonight you will experience a Kyoto style Kaiseki Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 8 – Saturday, September 15/Kyoto

Today enjoy touring of Kyoto.  Visit Nijo-Castle, Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion), Heian Shinto Shrine and the Kyoto Handicraft Center for shopping.  There will be time for lunch on own.  In the afternoon, visit Kiyozumi Temple and Sanjusangendo Hall.  The late afternoon is free to explore on your own or just relax.  This evening transfer to Osaka for a NPB Baseball Game with dinner at the stadium.  Return to hotel by bus after the game.

Day 9 – Sunday, September 16/Takayama

After breakfast, walk to the Kyoto station, board the Shinkansen (bullet train) and depart for Nagoya.  Upon arrival in Nagoya, transfer to a special train with large picture windows for a scenic ride through the mountains to Takayama.  Arrive in Takayama for an afternoon of sightseeing including Shirakawago Observatory and a traditional “Gassho-Zukiri” farm house.  After checking into your hotel, enjoy a “Hida” Beef Dinner with the group.  *(please pack a small overnight bag for Takayama & Hakone, luggage will be sent directly from Kyoto to Tokyo)

Day 10 – Monday, September 17/Takayama – Hakone

After breakfast, join your guide for a walking tour of Takayama including the Asaichi Morning Market, Takayama Jinya and Sanmachi-suji historic street.  After lunch on own, depart Takayama by train and return to Nagoya and board the Shinkansen once again, this time bound for Odawara.  Upon arrival in Odawara, board a motorcoach and transfer to a traditional Ryokan style hotel in Hakone and relax as you experience a real Onsen, a traditional Japanese hot spring bath.  Tonight join the group for a traditional Japanese Dinner at your hotel.

Day 11 – Tuesday, September 18/Atami – Kamakura - Tokyo

This morning depart by motorcoach for sightseeing of Hakone National Park.  First enjoy a scenic cruise on Lake Ashi, then visit the Owakudani Valley and Mt. Komagatake with its cable car ride.  Then depart by motorcoach traveling north with a stop in Kamakura for sightseeing.  You will see the Great Image of Budda, Komachi Shopping Street and Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shinto Shrine.  Later today, arrive in Tokyo and check in for a three night stay.  Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 12 – Wednesday, September 19/Tokyo 

Assemble in the lobby and depart for the Tokyo Dome with some sightseeing along the way.  Upon arrival, enjoy touring of Japan’s Baseball Hall of Fame Museum including a lecture with a local baseball celebrity (celebrity TBA).  There will be free time for lunch on own at Tokyo Dome City.  After lunch, tour the Meiji Shinto Shrine before arriving at the Ginza, one of the busiest streets in Japan with its high fashion boutiques and department stores.  Here you will experience lessons in Japanese culture including Sado (Tea Ceremony), Shodo (Japanese Calligraphy), Waso (Kimono) and Batto (Sward Play). Tonight you will enjoy another fun NPB Professional Baseball Game in Tokyo with some of the most dynamic fans in the world.  Dinner will be included at the game.

Day 13 – Thursday, September 20/Tokyo

Today you will continue your touring of Tokyo starting with the Tsukiji Outer Market.  Next travel to Hama Rikyu to enjoy a Sumida River Cruise.  After some free time for lunch on own, visit Asakusa Kannon Temple with its shopping arcade “Nakamise.”  Next transfer to the Ryogoku Kokugikan, also known as the Ryogoku Sumo Hall, to experience one of the greatest sporting traditions in the world, Sumo.  This uniquely Japanese sport has a history spanning centuries. Many ancient traditions have been preserved in sumo, and even today the sport includes many ritual elements, such as the use of salt purification, from the days when sumo was used in the Shinto religion. Life as a wrestler is highly regimented, with rules regulated by the Japan Sumo Association. Most sumo wrestlers are required to live in communal sumo training stables, known in Japanese as heya, where all aspects of their daily lives—from meals to their manner of dress—are dictated by strict tradition.  This evening join the group for a Japanese “Shabu Shabu” farewell dinner at a local restaurant.  What a perfect way to conclude your experience in Japan!

Day 3 – Monday, September 10/Osaka
